Hospitality Services at Rensselaer Sustainability Initiatives
Our CROP WALK is a major fundraiser that was held on May 4th. We were the major Corporate Sponsor in the Troy walk, donating $500 for press coverage and tee shirts. This year we were able to raise $2,400 involving students, faculty, staff, employees and Sodexo employees from other colleges in the area. All of the proceeds go to Church World Services (all denominations) hunger efforts in our community including local homeless shelters and food pantries.
United Way: United Way is a major contributor to feeding the hungry. Hospitality Services donated the “kickoff” breakfast for RPI’s annual campaign and the awards banquet, a total of $1937.
Clothe-A-Child: Sodexo realizes the importance of feeding our children but it is also important that they are properly clothed. Hospitality Services co-sponsors the annual “Clothe-A-Child” student appreciation dinner (we donate all of the food and labor), which raises funds to buy winter coats, hats, mittens and boots for local children whose families would otherwise not be able to afford them.
Education: Sodexo participates in the classroom at Troy High in the School-To-Employment Partnership. Students are shown how to fill out an application, how to dress for an interview, who to use for references, asked interviewing questions and discuss good work ethics. Our Executive Chef presented at W.K. Doyle Middle School at their annual Career Day and was featured in the local newspaper. Some of these students come to the Commons Dining Hall to learn various jobs such as food prep, baking, how to make pizza and serve on our lines. Others are hired to work in our dish room part time. All of these thing help to build awareness of what it is like in the working world, which helps to educate today’s students to support themselves and their families in the future. Education and Nutrition are the Key Ingredients for a better hunger-free tomorrow.

Customer Satisfaction Survey
We ask Students, Faculty and Staff at RPI to answer an Internet survey about our products and services. For every survey answered, Sodexo at RPI donates $1 to help feed the hungry. The total amount donated for 2009/2010 was $1,800, which was shared by two food pantries in Troy NY, Jospeh's House and Shelter and Unity House. |

Global Chef
In 2005 and again in 2010, we were hosts for the Global Chef program, an innovative program facilitating the exchange of Executive Chefs between affiliates around the world. Our visiting Chefs from the Netherlands and France, respectively, spent three days on campus cooking for Students, Faculty, Staff and Guests. This spring our visiting Chef from France, Patrick Mason, prepared a classic French meal for an intimate dinner for 20 winning couples from our Valentine's Day sweepstakes. |
